Tatting Tutorials

Here we have the tatting tutorials, with everything from holding the thread and pattern reading to making split rings and chains. Fair warning,
very graphic intensive, give the pictures a second or two to load.

Thread Holding

Just lay the thread over your left hand with the thread coming from the ball up.

Now fold all your fingers but thumb and forefinger over the thread,as though you're making a gun to shoot the camara that takes bad pictures. :) This is how you hold the thread to make the first half of the double stitch (also called a larkshead knot). Hold the needle in your right hand aginst the thread (leave a few inches between hands). Now bring the needle from the left and insert the tip under the thread on your pointer finger and slide the thread off your finger.

Now swing your pointer finger around to the back, catch the thread and bring it forward again (kinda a little circle). The threads should cross like in the picture above. Now slide the needle from the second kunckle twords the fingertip catching the thread on top ofthe needle, and let the slide off of your finger onto the needle. Congrats! Your first double stitch.
